Fibonacci Circles - just because I can

I have been thinking about circles and had the question the other day about how different number patterns might look if visualized with circles.  What about the Fibonacci sequence?  That question has been in my head for several days and I have resisted playing with it because I really should be prioritizing other things (eh hem, project proposal).  Sunday afternoon I gave in to the curiosity...

February 18 addition

My brain was too tired to compose a post for Week 6 after a day of hosting pro-d events...I tried.
But my compass and pencil crayons called out for playtime.
Still did a set of circles with radii growing according to the Fibonacci sequence and still placed the centre of the next circle on the edge of the previous one in the sequence. However, this time I rotated the position on the edge by 90-degrees counter clockwise.
I like the effect of my first play-time better.  What do you think?

  1. So fun though, right? I had such a great time with my circles based on proportions using phi/Golden Ratio as 0.618 which is also based on Fibonacci numbers!

    1. Yup - very fun! Inspired by your phi/Golden Ratio art and Ohm.

  2. So cool! Thanks for sharing! What made you decide to locate the circles with the edge in the centers, instead of edge to edge or completely overlapping? I'm curious what this would look like if each step was a ring of circles instead of one circle. And how would this change with the positioning of the circles (edges vs. centers)? Will it maintain Fibonacci properties? Now I have a procrastination project - gee thanks Sandra ;)

    1. I had no real reason to locate the centre of the next circle on the edge of the last circle drawn. Just felt like it. I was trying to picture it in my head but couldn't. The cool thing that happened was that I only had to measure 1cm as the first radius on the first circle. After that, I could just measure on the 2 previous circles by placing the compass on the edge.

You are very welcome for the procrastination project! Those are the best projects, I think! :) As a procrastination queen, I command you to show me your procrastination projects!

    2. Charli-Rae - take a look - I added another piece of procrastination (or brain dead, can't write) art.
